The Hollywood Modernists at The Wallis

The SDO returned to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts for their second concert, The Hollywood Modernists, on 22nd November 2025. The concert, which was postponed from January 2025 due to the LA fires, celebrates music from the second golden age of Hollywood film scoring.
The program celebrated 1950s and 1960s modernist film composers including Bernard Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein, Alex North and Leonard Rosenman, with music from iconic films such as “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “East of Eden,” “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “Rebel Without a Cause” and “North By Northwest.”
The Hollywood Modernists-The Second Golden Age of Film Scoring is one of three concerts remaining this year from the Scott Dunn Orchestra that survey classic film scoring. Their first appearance at The Wallis came earlier this year in May, with the acclaimed “Henry Mancini at 100” concert.
